October 31st London on llford XP2

Here are my keepers from two rolls of Ilford XP2 Super+ Black & White film.

To me, this is my favourite film, the grain is nice and fine and adds a subtle, pleasing texture. You can push its latitude quite a bit without damaging the image. I shot this stock at ISO 320 to slightly open the shadows, and I keep my camera meter at 0.0 with no exposure compensation.
Aperture priority with F-stops between f2 and F5.6 - nothing fancy

Canon Eos 55 / Elan II

I had the EU silver top version, but the all-black Asian release looks much better. My silver top one’s films auto advanced died, so I got this from a great guy in Japan for £91 inc postage a true bargain.

Sigma’s older EX prime lenses strike a middle ground in image quality. Made for digital, they may work even better for film: when you get sharp focus (they’re slow and often inaccurate), the results are phenomenal.

Here’s my makeshift scanning setup: A7RV with the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 III Macro. (Valoi Soon)
